The Challenge

By Wes Myhre

So far in this blog we have studied the basis of the Brit Chadasha which rests on that of the Tanakh.  For example, the scripture Yeshua Hamashiach employed to quash Satan’s assaults came directly from the Torah.  Here we read the exchange recorded in both Matthew and Luke.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. Matthew 4:3-11 (Emphasis added.)

And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. Luke 4:3-13 (Emphasis added.)

Next we find Yeshua pulled His responses directly from Deuteronomy as shown in the following.

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. Deuteronomy 8:3 (Emphasis added.) (Reference Matt 4:4 and Luke 4:4)

16 Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Deuteronomy 6:16 (Emphasis added.) (Reference Matt 4:7 and Luke 4:12)

13 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Deuteronomy 6:13 (Emphasis added.) (Reference Matt 4:10 and Luke 4:8)

Let us shift gears for a bit. Through the ages we have been taught, especially, from a public-school-secular-science perspective that through evolution humans have been slowly, over long periods of time, and in gradual increments evolving into intellectual life forms, becoming aware of their own consciousness, gradually getting better over millions and millions of years.  Yet, if we look at the 2nd law of thermodynamics as it was presented prior to the hijacking of this scientific principle by those seeking a special agenda, we find this law simply defined as a cyclic process in which entropy either increases or remains the same.  Merriam-Webster dictionary defines entropy as:

  1. 1 :  a measure of the unavailable energy in a closed thermodynamic system that is also usually considered to be a measure of the system’s disorder, that is a property of the system’s state, and that varies directly with any reversible change in heat in the system and inversely with the temperature of the system; broadly :  the degree of disorder or uncertainty in a system
  2. 2 a :  the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformityb :  a process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder (Merriam-Webster)

Through the lenses of evolution, some perceive humans as becoming more intelligent. In contrast though, through the use of the scientific method (defined as a systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, in formulating, testing, and modifying an hypotheses) all elements in our world are affected by entropy.  Right now, you may be asking yourself is this entropy-thing also known as the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics even biblical. I would urge you to watch this seminar by Kent Hovind, Seminar 1 The Age of the Earth.

Furthermore, observe your environment, and you will find all the proof you need of entropy.  This process is everywhere you look. Everything loses the battle with time, the sun, and the seasonal elements.  Our environment groans at the result of sin.

Let us examine what the Bible has to say about the concept of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics or entropy.

What have we learned from our own studies of scripture pertaining to the human condition if YHWY does not intervene?  Well, how about starting in the Garden with YHWY’s command and then the curse.

16 And the Lord God commanded (tsâvâh H6680) the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Genesis 2:16-17 (Emphasis added.)

Incidentally, the first place in the bible where tsâvâh, meaning command, is used is in Genesis 2 verse 16.

Strong’s Definition

צָוָה tsâvâh, tsaw-vaw’; a primitive root; (intensively) to constitute, enjoin:—appoint, (for-) bid, (give a) charge, (give a, give in, send with) command(-er, -ment), send a messenger, put, (set) in order (Blue Letter Bible).

YWHY does show in verse 15 of Genesis 2, “15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it” man’s role in creation. Here we see man was to dress the garden and keep it, but nonetheless, YHWY commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  To know evil you must know good, and to know good you must know evil.  It goes together as day and night, noisy and quiet, wet and dry, opposite sides of the same coin.

So then we find in Genesis 3 after the temptation occurred, YHWY confronts the governing parts of His creation, Adam and Eve; remember they were to subdue the earth.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28

The Serpent was also present and received his just deserts as well.

Pertaining to the curse, here we read what YHWY/Yeshua told Adam.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.  Genesis 3:17-19 (Emphasis added.)

The first mention of death occurred in Genesis 2:17, but here in Genesis 3:19 YHWY defines what “die” (מוּת mûwth  H4191) means in the physical, “..dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”  This is our first glimpse of entropy.

Strong’s Definitions –מוּת mûwth, mooth; a primitive root; to die (literally or figuratively); causatively, to kill:—× at all, × crying, (be) dead (body, man, one), (put to, worthy of) death, destroy(-er), (cause to, be like to, must) die, kill, necro(-mancer), × must needs, slay, × surely, × very suddenly, × in (no) wise (Blue Letter Bible).

Here are some verses depicting entropy in a variety of situations. To develop a better understanding, do a word study on the word “corrupt.”

11The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.  12And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. Genesis 6:11-12 (Emphasis added.)

And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: Exodus 32:7 (Emphasis added.)

Neither from a stranger’s hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you. Leiticus 22:25 (Emphasis added.)

My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.  Job 17:1 (Emphasis added.)

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Psalm 16:10 (Emphasis added.)

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. Psalm 38:5 (Emphasis added.)

19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: Matthew 6:19-20 (Emphasis added.)

Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. Luke 12:33 (Emphasis added.)

Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Acts 2:27 (Emphasis added.)

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans1:23 (Emphasis added.)

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. James 5:2 (Emphasis added.)

But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. Jude 1:10 (Emphasis added.)

For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. Revelation 19:2 (Emphasis added.)

So we know the world decays, seeks a lessor state or a state of entropy, and we find this not only in the physical but also in the mental and spiritual.  If we do not feed our physical bodies appropriately, we become weak and die.  If we do not nourish our minds through proper food and thought, we lose the ability to think rationally. Both the physical and the mental affect our spiritual.  Remember the old adage “garbage in, garbage out.” Proper food and exercise equals a healthy physical life now, and suitable thought and with Yeshua as our center equals a healthy eternity later on.  This brings to mind the concept of “love Yeshua Hamashiach with all our strength, heart, mind, and soul;” which leads to Yeshua’s command of “if you love me keep My commandments.”

We live in a fallen world, a world full of sin.  According to the Bible people used to live for 900 plus years, then 500 years, then 150 years, and now 100 years.  Our bodies are going downhill.  We are not spending 900 years learning, subduing our environment. In fact we have lost so much from the time of creation to Babel.

During that time we read YHWY flooded the earth to rid it of corruption, both of the mental and of the flesh.

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect (תָּמִים tâmîym) in his generations, and Noah walked with God.  Genesis 6:9 (Emphasis added.)

Strong’s Definitions – תָּמִים tâmîym, taw-meem’; from H8552; entire (literally, figuratively or morally); also (as noun) integrity, truth:—without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincerely (-ity), sound, without spot, undefiled, upright(-ly), whole (Blue Letter Bible).

We will delve deeper into this later on.

At Babel YHWY confounded the languages because of the evil in man’s heart.

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.  Genesis 11:6-9 (Emphasis added.)

Correspondingly, our biblical ideas and commentary are not getting better either, the further we transition from the original text of the bible, Hebrew and Greek.  With each translation, important information falls to the wayside, thus watering down our versions of YHWY’s word.  Furthermore, many things have wormed their way into translations that are not found in earlier written transcripts which have recently been discovered. (Research this, and here is a place to begin, 7 things you may not know about the King James Bible.)

YHWY will preserve His word. The trick is to know where He will preserve it.  Scripture tells us He will write in the hearts and minds of His children, Jeremiah 31:33, Romans 2:15, and Hebrews 8:10. We have to be discerning in our study of His word in order to recognize the truth.  We know truth is never changing; otherwise it would not be truth.

For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6

25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. 26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. Psalm 102:25-27

15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:15-17

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.  Hebrews 13:7-9

We can hear in these verses YHWY/Yeshua is never changing.

Furthermore, we are exhorted to test the spirits to see who they are and to seek truth.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-20

Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Psalm 25:5

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: Ephesians 4:15

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Ephesians 6:14

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23

Do you recall what Yeshau thought of man’s traditions?

He (Yeshua) answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.  Mark 7:6-9

(Other witnesses –Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8 – Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 2 Thessalonians 3:6 – Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 1 Peter 1:18)

Clearly, Yeshua explains the corrosive nature of the rudiments and traditions of men.

Let us put this all together.  We know man lives in a fallen world caused by sin, a condition of not following YHWY commands, as shown in Genesis 2:16-17, when Adam and Eve ate of the tree of good and evil. More to the point, we read how John defined sin in 1 John 3: 4, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” So then, the fall came by transgression of the law.  We saw how this brought change into the world which affected our bodies, mind, soul, and the environment around us. We know entropy caused this deadly corruption, and it’s corrosive nature in our worship of YHWY/Yeshua.

YHWY/Yeshua, the Creator of the all things, commands us to prove all things, test the spirits, and hold tight to the truth, and remember our eternal life depends on it.  Do not forget we are to emulate Yeshua in all that we do, using love, kindness, and discernment.

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 1 Peter 2:21

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. 1 John 2:6

Here is the challenge. Set aside all man-taught-theology, lessons and commentary which we have learned.  Pray to have YHWY help you set apart all doctrines, rudiments, and traditions.  Follow Yeshua’a example when He fended off Satan’s attack.  Yeshua pulled from the beginning, not the prophets, not the writings, but the Torah.  Let us go back and read those passages again.

The bolded emphases refer directly with the following verses found in Deuteronomy.

Setting aside all man taught theology, lessons and commentary, which we have learned, may seem tough and risky, but truth will always prevail.  If you do not want to test YHWY/Yeshua’s truth; then test your own. Put it up to be tested by YHWY/Yeshua.  If what you believe is solid, then it will stand up to YHWY’s scrutiny. The downside is putting away manmade traditions and beliefs, but the upside is a closer walk with Yeshua.  The crux really is if we have the faith and trust in YHWY to provide the courage, discernment, and strength to “walk in the wilderness for 40 days,” so to speak.

This is no easy task; however, it is a must to have a closer walk with YHWY/Yeshua. You need to understand you may walk away from family traditions, friends, and a variety of other habits.  It will be a time when you are tested beyond belief.  Satan will sift you in many ways and try to break your concentration on Yeshua through diversity of assaults.  Remain steadfast.  This is not the “claim it and name it” or “prosperity” ministries.  This is real life, biblical living, where rubber meets the road or where the metal cuts the flesh. It is not for the faint of heart.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Matthew 7:13-16

Know who your enemy is and come against it. Take time and pray daily, hourly, or more if needed to abide in Yeshua’s truth.  Pray for a new heart and mind.  Here is an example of a study prayer.

“Father YHWY, please cover me with the Blood of the Lamb and protect me from all enemy intrusion.  I ask that you open my mind and heart, ears and eyes, to Your truth, cast out all unrighteous teaching I have learned through the years, and please renew my heart and mind in order that I can learn Your truth, hidden in plain view in Your Word.  Father YHWY, please forgive me of my sins and help me to understand Your truth.  Please reveal in me all the lies I have been taught about Your Word and You.  Grant me the discernment and strength to accept Your truth. I ask for these things in the name of Yeshua, Amen.”

Here are links to useful tools in your quest to test all things:  The Blue Letter Bible, Bible Gateway, The Word, and Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. Look at the Hebrew and the Greek, study out each concept beginning in Genesis. Take the time.  You will be blessed.  Find other believers who are on the same quest.  You cannot do this alone.  You will need the help of other likeminded people, who want to lay aside all man made traditions and seek the truth, or have YHWY test their traditions as well.  Either way you will need each other’s support.

I pray you take this challenge and ask YHWY to protect you both physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as you endeavor to increase your knowledge of His truth.
