In the past few months through this blog we have studied about YHWH/Yeshua’s law, but we really have not looked closely at how His law or Torah is defined biblically. Be that as it may, let us first scrutinize the majority of contemporary church members. They want to believe and teach that YHWH’s law no longer should be practiced. Some even say, “It was good back then, but does not apply now as we are living in a different time.” So then, “what YHWH/Yehshua’s law is” and “what it does” cannot be found on the radar screen of things to investigate for the majority of Christians.
Furthermore, when I mentioned our need to follow YHWH/Yeshua’s law to those “churched” folks, I find how repugnant some of the nicest and dearest people can become, “We are no longer under the law, because if we were than Jesus’ blood is no good.” Or “You living under the law is your choice, but I want to live under grace and therefore choose to not follow that old, archaic law.” Before going any further, if you have not read this blog titled, Begin at the Beginning. Please do so before moving on forward in this article. It will be helpful.
Another lesson I have learned through these exchanges consists of defining terms, and what they mean. More times than not, biblical terminology has been the number one cause of confusion, thus leading to faulty understanding of scripture, for example the difference between the Tanakh and the Talmud. Likewise, plain old unfamiliarity of bible verses has produced inaccurate discernment as well, especially that of the first 39 books, known as the Old Testament or what we now call the Tanakh. Furthermore, a lack of understanding the first Tanakh suffers the student to falsely understand the last 27 books, a.k.a. Brit Chadasha. And bringing folks up to speed on these issues can be an arduous process at best if not altogether impossible; which therefore leads us to prayer and being the witness by walking the walk rather than talking the talk. I find when people are ready to listen; they will. That being said, I do believe we can still discuss things to edify the body of Yeshua, but with finesse and decorum.
I digress and must step down from my soapbox, now. I have heard several of the arguments pertaining to “putting oneself back under the law” from several people, and some folks can be downright offensive in their responses. However, what do we really expect from those who practice and promote lawlessness? They want to convince themselves they are secure in what they believe; however, do these people really know what they believe?
To begin, they quote Paul, a.k.a. Rav Sha’ul, as the Apostle who did away with God’s Law for the Gentiles. This line of thinking has been traced back to Marcion. This heresy has been handed down to generation after generation until it has become the norm not having to follow His law, or what is defined as lawlessness. You will need to understand the teachings of Marcion were heretical at the time and still are. Click here to read the article, “What is Marcionism” (Slick). So, what law did Rav Sha’ul state no longer applied to the children of Yeshua, the law of sin and death. (119 ministries- Exactly What Came to an End, the Glory or God’s Law?)
Remember context, context, context is everything. You will find verses here, go to your bibles and read them in their entire context. Another aside, remember do not take my word on anything, check out what is being said biblically and not through others’ commentary or through your own traditions but from the pages of scripture.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2 (Emphasis added.)
Furthermore, we see in several sources of our contemporary radio or television news how the laws and rules within our government system have changed in the last several years. If you are honest with yourself, you will see how somethings bible teachers espouse are wrong but have been accepted by church members as right and just. There are several examples of this from abortion to what one’s sexual preference is. But let us look at and reason for this degradation from a pragmatic point of view. As the church follows commentary of men, the church has slowly veered off course to the point where, following YHWH/Yeshua’s law has been accepted as wrong. Therefore, let us look at what Rav Sha’ul stated in Romans 1.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Romans 1:28-32 (Emphasis added.)
There is a curious term listed with all the other terms: unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, ackbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, and unmerciful.
Strong’s defines ἀσύνθετος asýnthetos (G802) (covenantbreakers), as-oon’-thet-os (from ἄλφα , alpha (as a negative particle) and a derivative of συντίθεμαι, syntíthemai G4934) properly, not agreed, i.e. treacherous to compacts:—covenant-breaker.
Breaking YHWH/ Yeshua’s covenant is considered by Rav Sh’ul to be among some of the most abhorrent things a person can do. Breaking covenant is not following YHWH/Yeshua’s covenant or instructions, His Torah, His law. So if the church is not following YHWH/Yeshua’s law, then why do we expect others to follow it.
Alright, let us define law, known in the Hebrew as Torah.
The KJV translates Torah or towrah (H8451) in the following manner:
“Law, direction, instruction; direction (human or divine); body of prophetic teaching ; instruction in Messianic age; body of priestly direction or instruction; body of legal directives; law; law of the burnt offering; of special law, codes of law; custom, manner; or the Deuteronomic or Mosaic Law”(Torah).
Here is how the bible defines Torah.

RESH. Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law. H8451 Psalms 119:153 (Emphasis added.)

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law H8451 of thy mother: Proverbs 1:8
My son, forget not my law; H8451 but let thine heart keep my commandments: Proverbs3:1
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. H8451 Proverbs 4:2 (Emphasis added.)
My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law H8451 of thy mother: Proverbs 6:20 (Emphasis added.)
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law H8451 is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: Proverbs 6:23 (Emphasis added.)
Keep my commandments, and live; and my law H8451 as the apple of thine eye. Proverbs 7:2 (Emphasis added.)
The law H8451 of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Proverbs 13:14 (Emphasis added.)
Whoso keepeth the law H8451 is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. Proverbs 28:7 (Emphasis added.)
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, H8451 even his prayer shall be abomination. Proverbs 28:9
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, H8451 happy is he. Proverbs 29:19 (Emphasis added.)
So, we find YHWH/Yeshua’s law is truth, a delight, perfect, a light, and found in the heart. This should remind you of:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:33 (Emphasis added.)
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) Romans 2:15 (Emphasis added.)
16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Hebrews 10:16 (Emphasis added.)
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17-19 (Emphasis added.)
YHWH/Yeshua’s law or instructions are not done away with, changed, or moot. They are alive and well to those who choose His way. Remember, in any civilized society where the law is adhered to, followed, and respected, people will remain safe and happy; however, when people step outside the bounds of the laws is when citizens can suffer the consequences of lawlessness. YHWH/Yeshua’s law is the best, and we need to realize and think how much more we would be protected; especially from what is coming down the pike, if we adhered to YHWH/Yeshua’s law or instructions.
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. Romans 13:1-5
So, what does the bible say when the YHWH/Yeshau’s law is not followed? Those who spurn the law or who do not knowingly practice it are wicked, lawless, haters of truth and so on.
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. H8451 Genesis 26:5
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. H8451 Deuteronomy 29:29 (Emphasis added.)
The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, H8451 changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Isaiah 24:5 (Emphasis added.)
That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law H8451 of the LORD: Isaiah 30:9 (Emphasis added.)
So those who do not heed the law are sinners. We see this in Isaiah 24:5 above and:
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4
But do we have righteous people in this world from before Yeshua’s death on the cross, because there is an argument used several times where this verse is quoted.
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:10
The contention here is there is “no one righteous.” But is that what the bible actual says?
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. Luke 1:5-6
And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Gen. 7:1 (Emphasis added.)
Another article to read about this is by Bjork Bloggen, Examples of righteous and holy people in the Bible. So, now we know there were and are righteous people in the bible. However, if one looks to where this came from in the Tanakh, Psalms 14.
1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord. 5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. Psalms 14:1-5 (Emphasis added.)
The context matters. In this case the text indicates fools are being talked about. It certainly is important to understand where ideas come from in the Tanakh and look at the context of what is being discussed.
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, H8451 which I set before you this day? Deuteronomy 4:8
The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, H8451 and make it honourable. Isaiah 42:21
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; H8451 fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings. Isaiah 51:7
Therefore the law H8451 is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth. Habakkuk 1:4
These verses indicate there are righteous people in the bible before Yeshau’s death on the cross, but do not forget Yeshua’s sacrifice was established before the foundations of the earth was set into place.
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8 (Emphasis added.)
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. John 17:24 (Emphasis added.)
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Ephesians 1:4 (Emphasis added.)
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 1 Peter 1:20 (Emphasis added.)
Let us shift gears a little, if you study the allegory of YHWH/Yeshua taking Israel out of Egypt, you will find Israel was saved first and then given instructions how to live to stay safe. There is more to this; for example, the law was a marriage contract, or ketubah. (Hamp God’s Divorce and Remarriage And The Restoration of Israel Through the New Covenant.)
So here are more verses on YHWH/Yeshua’s law.
One law H8451shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you. Exodus 12:49

If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, H8451 and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. Deuteronomy 30:10
Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law H8451 of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 5:24
To the law H8451 and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Isaiah 8:20
Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law. H8451 Isaiah 42:24
Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law H8451 shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people. Isaiah 51:4
The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law H8451 knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. Jeremiah 2:8
Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, H8451 but rejected it. Jeremiah 6:19

They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, H8451 nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers. Jeremiah 44:10

Malachi 4:1-6
These are verses to study out and learn contextually. Have fun.
Here is what I want you to take away from this study. YHWH/Yeshua’s law does not save anyone. Yeshua did that through the shedding of His blood at Calvary. This divine law of YHWH/Yeshua is meaningless, unless we first believe in His ultimate sacrifice.
Becoming a part of another family and wanting to be a member of that family, we cannot just follow their rules: this is not enough by itself. First, one must be adopted into that family, then following the family’s rules shows respect to the family. This same principle applies to the family of YHWH. His divine law aids the believer, and out of respect the believer wants to obey YHWH/Yeshua’s commands or laws; however, the lawless one is affected by the law of sin and death because by definition sin is lawlessness, transgression of the law.
Let us look at this by comparing it to our criminal law. Those who follow the criminal law do not have to worry about the sting of that law because they operate within the confines of it, learning and extolling its affirmations; whereas, those who do not adhere to the criminal law, find themselves in fear of its sting. It does not edify them but condemns them, always hiding, sneaking, and lying for fear of being caught.
YHWH/Yeshau’s law is no different. It helps to grow the child of YHWH, but in turn condemns those who are not. It is a mirror.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:23-25 (Emphasis added.)
We know YHWH/Yeshua’s law is written on our hearts. Does that mean we do not follow it, or do we? When YHWH/Yeshua tells us something is forever, does that mean we still follow the mandate, for, example recognizing and participating in the feasts of the YHWH/Yeshua as spoken of in Leviticus 23?
I will leave you with these questions to ponder. Study YHWH/Yeshua’s word and prayerfully consider these questions.
